Learning Objectives:

·      To understand the concept of Number System (Rational and Irrational Numbers)

·      To know the difference between Rational numbers and Irrational numbers

Learning Outcomes:

·       Students will learn to classify rational numbers based on their properties

·       Students will explore how classifying numbers impacts real world scenarios

Motivation:

            Provide the students with number cards having different types of numbers (like integers, fractions and decimals) and make them to sort into categories

Explanation:

 Start with Definitions

Rational Numbers:

·  Definition: A rational number is any number that can be expressed as a fraction or ratio of two integers, where the denominator is not zero. In other words, if a number can be written as P/Q where P and Q are integers and Q≠0 it is a rational number.

·  E.g. ½, 5/3,-4

Irrational Numbers:

·  Definition: An irrational number is a number that cannot be expressed as a simple fraction or ratio of two integers. Its decimal representation goes on forever without repeating.

·  E.g.  π, e

Videos:

                           For better understanding teachers can use some videos of number system to differentiate rational and irrational numbers.

 

Mind Map:

Reinforcement:

                       Divide the classroom into two groups. They both have to prepare questions. First group can ask the question and the other try to answer. Likewise both the group answer.

Immediate feedback on their answers.

Award extra points for teamwork or explaining their reasoning.

Remedial teaching:

                     Teacher have to use different teaching methods those who didn’t understand the topic.

Evaluation:

                  Asking few questions to the students to assess their achievement
